Creating Solo Cabaret Course (Melbourne)
Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 12:09PM

The first “Creating Solo Cabaret” course of 2010, run by Kim Edwards, will commence at The Butterfly Club in Melbourne from 18th January.
If you’re a performer who’s exploring the genre or wanting to hone your craft as a solo cabaret artist, this practical and extensive course will teach the fundamentals of putting together your own show over the six-week period.
The first three workshops will guide the participants through fundamental topics such as in-depth discussion of the genre, marketing, advertising, methods of creating a unique concept, song choices, scripting, directing and rehearsal tips.
After the workshops, there’ll be a master class, followed by a rehearsal session, and finally, Performance Night, where the participants will perform extracts from the developing show at The Butterfly Club – one of the top cabaret venues in Australia. All the course material, tuition, accompanist, lighting, technician, direction, personal written critique, tea/coffee/refreshments and final graduate certificate will be included in the course fee, not to mention plenty of encouragement and support. Small classes mean you’ll get individual attention.
Kim Edwards has a wealth of knowledge and experience as a writer, producer, director, lighting operator, stage manager and performer of cabaret/theatre shows of various scales. She’s helped mentor and helped create numerous cabaret artists. Short+Sweet Cabaret winner Tom Dickin’s show “Where Was I?” which she directed made a successful New York debut in December last year.
The course runs regularly throughout the year, so keep an eye out for the future course dates as they get announced.
