Miriam Waks in Songs of the Romance Languages - Melbourne 21st March
Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 12:19AM ONE FINAL SHOW in Melbourne before she leaves for a six-month contract in Macau
From the tiny fado cafes of Lisbon, through the smoky cabaret lounges of Paris, to the steamy rhythms of a Rio Carnaval - Songs of the Romance Languages’will take you on a musical journey, crossing borders in the universal tongue.
Sydney-based singer Miriam Waks returns to Melbourne with Songs of the Romance Languages - ONE FINAL SHOW before she leaves for a six-month contract in Macau.
At the tender age of twenty-one Miriam can already boast MO and ACE award nominations; selection for ‘Encore’ at the Sydney Opera House; a performance on the ARIA nominated album “Towards the Light” (Spit Syndicate); and a five month residency at the five star Taj Palace in New Delhi. It all makes sense when you hear her sing.
That voice - and an equally precocious wit, style and presence - are all on show in Songs of the Romance Languages: a unique exploration of love, life, world music and musical theatre through cabaret. Miriam sings the songs and stories of artists including Brel, Piaf, Piazzolla, Yasmin Levy and Mariza (in French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Ladino, Romany, as well as English); exploring a diverse range of styles including tango, fado, bossa nova and chanson.
After sold-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne don’t miss your chance to see this rising star before she takes to the international stage once more.
