Lady Carol – All Alone, Together
Bosco Theatre, The Garden of Unearthly Delights
Until March 13th
By Lena Nobuhara
After whetting Adelaide’s appetite with her dazzling performance in a smash hit show “A Company of Strangers” at last year’s Fringe Festival, the wait is finally over – Lady Carol is back.
In her brand new full show, mysterious, alluring and irresistibly sexy Lady Carol in her elegant hooded gown strums her ukulele and sings with her terrific two piece band - Alistair Spence on keys and Toby Hall on drums. Intimate Bosco Theatre is a perfect venue and she looks right at home on the stage.
Her haunting, soulful vocals are strong and engaging - she weaves melancholy into the quirky selection of awesomely arranged covers by Radiohead, Queen, King of Leon et al and heartfelt self-penned songs.
She dishes out offbeat etiquette advice on how to be a “lady” in between for comic relief. Lady Carol suggests we leave lipstick marks to find our way home and to involve as many people as possible when cleaning. The sing-along to Minnie the Moocher is a riot as we struggle to keep up with her vocal gymnastics and the spontaneous costume change brings gasps of delight.
The adoring audience showed their appreciation with thunderous applause and she reciprocates by showing Cheshire cat grins during songs, letting on that she too, is having lots of fun.
In my corner of the theatre, the sound is occasionally uneven, making the drums a tad overpowering in a few places, but that’s only a minor gripe and it doesn’t make the show any less enjoyable.
Overall, it was a powerhouse performance - Lady Carol reigns supreme once again.

Thanks for your review Lena. I'm hoping to see Lady Carol's show too. She was great to work with in Company of Strangers last year!
She would've been fantastic and interesting to work with! I do hope you'll get the chance to see her - I recommend getting a copy of her demo cd. It has 10 tracks and I got mine signed - she was lovely. And the cd is fabulous.
