The Bedroom Philosopher: Songs from the 86 Tram - Review from the web
Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 9:59PM

This is a show for Melburnians. Set on the 86 tram route we meet a series of characters in deftly crafted vignettes as the tram makes its clattering journey from Bundoora to Docklands.
Justin Heazlewood is the Bedroom Philosopher, a gifted musician and mimic who transports you into the world of the inhabitants of Melbourne. From the strung out junkie, to the Irish backpacker, via the new African migrant his facility for accents and expressions is outstanding. His ability to inhabit such a wide range characters through voice and mannerism is uncanny. However in a three minute song it is difficult to go far beyond the stereotype and many clever rhymes are simply stating the obvious.
It is a fast paced hour with few pauses for the frenetic performer, who transforms himself into a teenage rapper, sexy ticket inspector or Indy rocker with complete commitment and energy.

With lyrics like “I’m the Ute and you’re the diesel, I’m the bowl and you’re the Cheezels”, you really can’t help but love Justin Heazlewood, aka The Bedroom Philosopher. There’s a fine line between comic genius and freaky folly and Heazlewood treads it finely at times, but for the most part, the show is about as witty and original as musical comedy gets.
This is a comedy show with heart. It’s well structured, brilliantly performed, and one of a kind.
