2010 Adelaide Cabaret Festival Top 10 picks
Monday, April 26, 2010 at 7:33PM Chairman of Adelaide Cabaret Festival Committee, Frank Ford has posted his top 10 picks on the festival website for those that need a little help with working out which shows to go see.
After being inspired by his list, I’ve come up with my own. Yes, I’m fully aware of the obvious bias with my selection, but you’ll have to forgive me – I do love my musical theatre!
Have you booked tickets to Adelaide Cabaret Festival shows already? If so, which ones? Tell us your top picks or the shows you’re going to see in the comment section below.

FRANK FORD’S TOP 10 PICKS
Friends have been asking for some guidance in choosing from such a fabulous program. So here are some suggestions to get you started.
Natalie Cole. A great star and great songs in “Unforgettable …With Love”. Absolutely unforgettable! Exclusive to Adelaide!
Smoke & Mirrors. A collection of stunning and bizarre acts in the style of European cabaret! Fab fun! Not to be missed!
Robyn Archer in classic Berlin cabaret is sure to be a sell out! More fantastic European cabaret with John Waters in Brel.
Liz Callaway. A brilliant Broadway Babe with a voice and stage presence to die for! Has won dozens of awards!
The Wharf Revue - Pennies from Kevin is political and social satire at its best. Lampooning our beloved pollies with witty songs!
Donna McKechnie in “My Musical Comedy Life” sings, dances and acts like a fabulous Broadway star which she is!
Liza (On an E) Trevor Ashley. If you missed Liza don’t miss this. It’s better than the original with lots of love and laughter.
Caroline O’Connor. This human dynamo explodes on the stage like a star burst of artistic exuberance. A wonder to behold!
Marney McQueen in “ROSA Waxes Lyrical” made Edinburgh Fringe Festival critics’ hair stand on end. They loved her.
David Hobson in “Am I really here?” But how could you miss him! He is a stunning star of the Australian stage.

Stephen Schwartz
EMMETT’S TOP 10 PICKS
Natalie Cole - A superstar with a remarkable voice. Seeing her perform those timeless classics will be amazing.
Donna McKechnie - She’s a true entertainer and I can’t wait to see her fascinating life on stage.
Frisky and Mannish School of Pop - Their deconstructed pop songs are clever and funny – two of the biggest stars of contemporary cabaret.
Liza (On an E) Trevor Ashley - He’ll be an absolute scream as he pays cheeky but affectionate tribute to Liza Minnelli.
Pasek and Paul - I wonder what this new generation of exciting Broadway composer team bring to the festival?
Stephen Schwartz - There won’t be another chance to see the man who brought Godspell, Pippin, and Wicked to us up close.
Caroline O’Connor - If you saw her dazzling performance at the launch, you’d put her on your must-see list, too.
Liz Callaway - An extraordinary Broadway Diva. She’d be sublime in more ways than one.
Mitchell Butel - Killing Time - Loved him in Avenue Q. I’m thrilled that he’s appearing in his third cabaret show.
The Divine Cabaret - I’d love to see Geraldine Quinn, Mark Jones and Karlis Zaid perform cabaret the homegrown style.

i'm taking my mum to David Harris! she loves him. i want to see Hugh Sheridan, havent booked the tickets yet.
Lena, where are John Waters & Kim Smith on the list? I think they deserve a mention.
Thank you for commenting Helen. Yes, John Waters and Kim Smith both deserve a mention. In fact, I'm going to see Morphium - it'll be great to see a cabaret show straight from NYC - performed by an Aussie! As I wrote on the post, my list heavily focuses on musical theatre performers. If I made a list of every show I recommend, it would've ended up as "Top 30 Picks"! What other acts would you include in your top picks?
You're going to see Kim Smith? Awesome! My other top picks would be Penny from Kevin and Liza on an e. Trevor Ashley is phenomenal.
