2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe to open with over 90 cabaret shows

The largest arts festival in the universe, Edinburgh Festival Fringe is set to open again next week.

For three weeks in August, the capital of Scotland becomes the hub of performing arts of every kind for every taste - cabaret, theatre, music, dance, comedy, opera, you name it.  After having one of the most successful season ever in 2009, an estimated 21148 performers will take to the stage.

The official dates of the festival are 6th to 30th August with preview performances starting on the 4th.  Over 90 cabaret shows line the programme pages with something on each day.

Notable performers such as Barb Jungr in her much-acclaimed show that pays homage to the modern American Songbook composed by male songwriters The Men I Love, Alan Cumming in his first solo cabaret I Bought a Blue Car Today, Frisky and Mannish in their brand new show Frisky and Mannish: The College Years , Lady Carol will also roll out her new show Malady with her ukulele and all-dancing, all-singing Movin’ Melvin Brown will be in Soul to Soul (I have a dream).

A decent size Australian contingent will be at the festival as always, including the Ed Fringe regular Ali McGregor in Jazz Cigarette, Geraldine Quinn will explore what makes a hit pop song in Shut up and Sing, Isabel Hertaeg will take us through the world of sex and orgasms in La Petite Mort. Tommy Bradson, who just finished his Melbourne Cabaret Festival run will star in his multi-award winning show, When the Sex is Gone. Also straight from the Melbourne Cabaret Festival season, Mikelangelo will team up with a British magician and comedian Paul Zenon in Late Late Show with Paul Zenon & Mikelangelo.  Seven girls who call themselves Twisted Melon in Princess Cabaret and the smash hit at both Sydney Festival and Adelaide Cabaret Festival will also take part.  Smoke & Mirrors featuring iOTA and Queenie van de Zandt will be back at the Spiegeltent.

You’ll be spoilt for choice and it’s shaping up to be a yet another great Ed Fringe Festival.
