Barb Jungr to tour Australia in September 2010
Monday, August 2, 2010 at 11:15AM
It’s been a long while since her last visit to Australia in 2007, but I am very happy to finally announce that the brilliant Barb Jungr will return to our shores this September. I’ve known this exciting news for a while and am very pleased to share it on here now that the booking details are available online at all venues.
Barb Jungr will kick off her tour in Melbourne, followed by Noosa, Canberra, Sydney and Katoomba.
The tour will showcase many songs from her new critically acclaimed album ‘The Men I Love: The New American Songbook’, featuring songs written by contemporary male songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon and Bruce Springsteen. She will be accompanied by Jenny Carr on Piano.
The UK based Barb Jungr is renowned for her unique style of interpreting familiar songs. True to form, she has completely restyled and reinvented the iconic songs and created her world with ‘The Men I Love’.
And she is an artist who is absolutely mind-blowing live. Her abilities to interpret the songs she sings and turn into her own, to get the audience to focus on the lyrics as well as ‘feel’ what she’s singing and to form an unforgettable connection with them are extraordinary and remarkable on so many levels.
Barb Jungr had successful seasons in New York and London with her show ‘River’ and ‘The Men I Love’, receiving rave reviews. She’s also written a charming children’s musical ‘The Fabulous Flutterbys’, which premiered at Angels Theatre in London in May, which delighted kids and kids-at-heart.
Not only is Barb Jungr an amazing multi-talented artist, she has been an incredible supporter of this blog. She has been very co-operative with supplying information and always taken time to answer my questions and emails. She’s also introduced other members of the cabaret community to us, and has given warm and kind encouragements that have inspired me to continue contributing when I was short on time or energy. I’d like to thank her from the bottom of my heart.
I’d also like to thank Matthew Carey, who did a phenomenal job accompanying her in 2006 and 2007, for giving me the opportunity to interview Barb back in February.
I urge everyone to go see her and experience Barb Jungr’s magic she weaves so well. Her passion for her craft is palpable and contagious - her show will renew/restore your faith in live entertainment.
I can’t wait to see her and be bowled over once again.
Australian Tour Review
This intensity was nicely balanced by such boundless wit and charm as could easily have afforded her a stand-up comedy career, had she been born without a striking voice. It is a potent switch she flicks between having us falling about laughing and clubbing us with lyrics of loss or devastation.

From The Age
…Jungr has an innate gift for imbuing personal stories with universal resonance. Her voice has a directness that is devoid of affectation, and her minimalist arrangements focus our attention squarely on the lyrics and melody, inviting us to hear these familiar tunes with fresh ears.
