Cabaret and Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts the world famous ‘extreme’ open-mic night to remember every Monday night at Birdland in New York City.
Jim Caruso’s Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It’s a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars like Liza Minnelli, Chita Rivera and Michael Feinstein hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. At the Cast party, the best and the brightest stars and stars-to-be in cabaret, jazz, musical theatre and everything in between take their turns to sing their favourite tunes.
Since starting in 2003, it’s become a New York institution where who’s who of cabaret, jazz, musical theatre and everything in between, emerging talents and their fans gather and sing their hearts out.
Jim Caruso runs a tight ship with his brilliant emcee skills. Alongside him are musical directors Tedd Firth or Billy Stritch at the piano and Steve Doyle on bass. It’s a party that would happen “if somehow David Letterman and Ed Sullivan threw a hip house party around the nine-foot concert grand piano.”
The Cast Party on tour
In 2011, the Cast Party was busy being on the road. It premiered in Chicago and in Pittsburgh, where Jim Caruso and a few other alumni partied at Sewickley Academy with Billy Stritch. To top it all off, they had their first ever Cast Party in Cleveland in October.

There will be a Cast Party in LA again! The first 2012 LA Cast Party will be at The Coterie in Los on February 29 and March 1! Stay tuned for a special interview with Jim Caruso on LA Cast Party.
