As mentioned in this previous post, after almost two years of Showqueen, the creator, producer and host, Trevor Ashley (who’s also a terrific cabaret performer) has decided to have a break because of his work commitments. Hundreds of singers and musicians have played Sunday nights, they toured to Melbourne, and recorded two fabulous CDs, showcasing their amazing work.

The final Showqueen is on this Sunday, 2nd of May.

Featuring: PHIL SCOTT, MARGI DE FERRANTI, VIRGINIA GAY, QUEENIE VAN DE ZANDT, FLIP SIMMONS, FIONA SULLIVAN, AMELIA CORMACK, MARK TREVORROW and many many more.

It’s a mega Showqueen, get in early to get your seat.  Don’t miss out!

A big round of applause to Trevor Ashley for his huge contribution to the cabaret community and for his magnificent work with Showqueen.  I wish him all the best with his future projects and I look forward to the day when Sydney’s best cabaret showcase night returns.

You can see him at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in Liza (On an E). Click on the link for all the show info.

Trevor Ashley's Showqueen to go on hiatus

Sydney’s longest running and hugely popular weekly cabaret showcase night Showqueen’s creator, producer and host Trevor Ashley announced to his fans on facebook that due to personal reasons as well as his business and touring schedule, the regular event will go on hiatus after 2nd of May 2010.

In the message, he mentioned that he is taking a break for a while to reassess what he’d like to do with Showqueens and that the hiatus will keep the Sunday evening event fresh for the audience.

Showqueen made its debut in August 2008 at The Supper Club on Oxford Street, Sydney.  Since then, there have been over 60 performances, 180-plus performers, a successful Melbourne season at Chapel Off Chapel, two live albums, and thousands of audience members.  2010 season opened at its new venue Kit & Kaboodle Supper Club in Kings Cross.

The event gave the emerging cabaret performers the opportunity to hone their craft alongside accomplished stars, and the featured artists and the special guests have produced a number of memorable performances in the intimate setting.  Some of the performers include Paul Capsis, Avigail Herman, Toni Lamond, David Harris, iOTA, Nick Christo, Mark Trevorrow, Phil Scott and casts of musicals such as Wicked, Guys and Dolls and Priscilla Queen of Desert.

For the next three Sundays, two new talents Fiona Sullivan (18th April) and Aaron Taylor (25th April) will sing up a storm, then the grand finale Showqueen Spectacular will take place on the 2nd of May, featuring many of the regular performers for the last two years.

It will definitely be missed, and I can only hope that the event will return bigger than ever in the not too distant future. Get all your Showqueen fix while you can.
